Mastering Photo Organization: A Step-by-Step Guide to Organizing Your iPhone Photos

As I think about New Year resolutions/goals I often lean towards decluttering and simplifying life. As a photographer, I noticed some photos on my phone and computer that needed to be organized which is what brings me to today’s helpful guide.

Let’s talk about organizing the photos on your phone!

I am an Apple Phone user, so all of this is based on an iPhone, but I’m sure these steps could be implemented the same with other phones.

Step 1 - Step by Step

Create specific folders for photos.

Example of folder ideas:

  • Children (specific folders for each child)

  • Each year

  • By month

  • Background photos

  • Stock photos

  • Vacations

  • Birthdays

  • Holidays

  • Favorites (that you use or look at often)

  • Ones to be printed

Moving pictures into specific folders will be time-consuming, but keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be done all at once. You can set aside a couple of minutes a day and before you know it all of your pictures will be organized into their specific folders. Trust me, once it’s done you will love your organized folders and the ability to quickly find pictures!

Step 2 - Sort, Delete, and Favorite

If you are like me and you take way too many photos of one thing so you can get “just the right look” this will help declutter all of those “not-so-perfect” photos.

  • Once you get a chance, right after taking that series of photos, go through and ‘heart’ your favorites.

  • Once you edit the ones that have ‘hearts’ delete the remaining ones that didn’t make the cut.

This will help you from having to go back later to delete all of the pictures that you don’t want to waste valuable space in the cloud.

Step 3 - Why do this?

Organizing the photos on your phone will be such a time saver because you can find exactly what you are looking for in seconds rather than digging through hundreds of pictures to find “the one”.

If you have a business or just want to capture sweet photos of your everyday life, being able to go to the specific folder to find that perfect photo will save so much time!

If you have a photography business like I do, I would also recommend creating a portfolio album that can be easily shared with potential clients!

This will also help break down your photos if you are wanting to create a photobook.

So not only have you organized your photos but you also upheld your New Year’s resolution/goal! I hope you get as much satisfaction out of this as I did!

Happy organizing! :)
