Gulpha Gorge, Hot Springs, AR | Barbee + Hoard | Family Photoshoot
One of the great joys of being a photographer is documenting moments that families will cherish for a lifetime.
When vacationing in the beautiful and peaceful Hot Springs, Arkansas from the big city of Dallas, Texas, Jessica, Jeremy, Paula, John and Nana took this opportunity to capture sweet memories for Paula’s birthday with a photo shoot at the gorgeous Gulpha Gorge.
Gulpha Gorge, Hot Springs, AR | Barbee + Hoard | Family Photoshoot
On this lovely, crisp, fall morning, near the peaceful water surrounded by trees, I ventured out to Gulpha Gorge to meet with this wonderful family. Once I arrived at the gorge, I immediately felt like a member of the family. There was so much laughter from the second I stepped out of my car.
Throughout the photo shoot, I learned that Jessica and Jeremy have been happily married for three years. It was very evident that they are still madly in love. Paula and John were so fun and full of excitement for this photoshoot. Then there was sweet Nana. She was my favorite to photograph. She was full of laughter and adventure!
Nana has a tradition that anytime she visits a new place she will find a treasure to take back home with her, it ranges from a rock, shell, pinecone, or anything else she feels was special to that particular vacation. While I was taking pictures of Jessica and Jeremy, Nana was enjoying a stroll by the creek looking for the perfect keepsake. By the end of the photo shoot, she found the cutest little pinecone. To an outsider, this is just a pinecone, but to Nana, this is a special treasure that reminds her of the time she visited Hot Springs with her precious family for Paula’s birthday.
So often when people think of a family photoshoot, they immediately think of kids. Whereas that is the stereotype, I love it when families of all generations get together for a photoshoot.
Capturing pictures of grandparents or great-grandparents is just as valuable as pictures of children. So often families reach out to me asking for generational photoshoots because there is an urgency to slow down time to capture valued memories amongst each generation. I love these moments because it shows how valuable each member of the family is.
Barbee and Hoard family: Thank you for making me feel like a member of the family as I captured these treasured memories for your family. It was a joy to work with each of you. Nana, thank you for reminding me to enjoy the little treasures in life.
