3 iPhone Photography Tips: Take Photos Like A Pro

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.  I believe it’s priceless. Don’t you? We’re all creating a legacy, and my goal is to help you capture it. Because of my years of experience as a professional photographer, I’ve learned a few things that will transfer over to the camera you have in your hand every single day… your phone!

Let’s dive in, shall we?

3 Tips To Improve Your

iPhone Photography

Tip #1 - Keep Clean
Okay, this may seem a little basic, but hang in there with me for a second. How many different places do we store our phone? So often we get little pieces of fuzz or smudges on the lens and we’re quick to just pull out our camera and start shooting. But what we want to get in the habit of is quickly wiping off the lens before shooting. This will help us create a clean crisp picture that will last for years to come!

Tip #2 - Use Natural Light

Good Light = Lighting that is the same from head to toe

Finding good light is one of the number one things to think about when you’re taking a photo. This can make or break your image.

When looking for a good spot to snap a photo, look for an area that’s well-lit, but not in direct sunlight. Soft, natural light is best, and whenever you can, avoid artificial lighting. It simply doesn’t look as good!

Choosing natural light as much as possible will give you the best outcome creating those creamy dreamy skin tones we love so much! Another lighting tip is to turn your subject toward the light. This will brighten the eyes and give a nice glow to the face.

Tip #3 - Think about the Composition

Naturally, our eye is drawn to groups of three. So when positioning yourself to take a picture, think in terms of threes. Of course, your subject will be one, then if there are two other objects try to use the Rule of Thirds. It’s a simple way to think about composition and thankfully the grid on our phone’s camera makes it easy!

Bonus: Editing Tools

Our cameras are getting better every day but editing them a little doesn’t hurt either.

I use Lightroom both for my iPhone and Desktop. I love it because I can download my preset which helps all my images to have a cohesive look. I prefer the light and airy type look, so this is perfect for me. With one click of the button, my photo has “my” look. Who doesn’t love saving time!?

Some other great apps you could use for editing are…

  • VSCO

  • Snapseed

  • A Color Story

*Another little tip, when you’re editing your images make sure you’re editing the original Phone photo, not a screenshot. When taking screenshots, it lessens the picture resolution and will make the photo not so clear.
